What to do to while away the hours when we’re all stuck at home? Invite an award-winning chef into your kitchen with Zoom for a personal cooking lesson, of course, silly!
It’s a cosy evening at home as another Melbourne winter begins to settle in, and we’re getting ready to have a visitor over for dinner. This visitor is a little different though, he’s not just bringing the ‘virtual’ bottle of wine, he’s bringing years of experience as a head chef, and a talent for making even a cooking novice feel like a pro in the kitchen. The other big difference with this dinner guest is that he’s not actually coming?! Well, not physically anyway…
So, who’s this mysterious and virtual visitor? It’s accomplished Chef Jason Ludwig (@chefjasonludwig) of Passion Ate the Chef who has begun sprinkling his culinary fairy dust for food lovers everywhere through his newly launched LIVE online cooking lessons over Zoom.
Our very good friends over at Australian Good Food Guide have introduced us to Jason’s talents, and we’re lucky enough to be part of this first Passion Ate The Chef online experience. In this intimate and informative cooking lesson, Jason expertly walks us through the making of a dish from start to finish, while imparting his passion for food, immense experience and techniques that we can use to build our overall cooking skills. Jason explains both the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ we’re using specific methods, so that we can easily apply that newly gained knowledge in the future.
Under Chef’s friendly and easy to understand instructions, we’re cooking a beautiful fish dish, embellished with smokey baby heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, citrus fennel, roasted tomato sauce, and a very memorable Kalamata olive ‘soil’. Chef provides a handy shopping list to prepare before the lesson, so all we have to do is clear a space in our kitchen, setup our favourite device with Zoom meeting installed, click on the link to launch the Zoom class, and voila! We’re ready, with mise en place, for this cooking adventure from the cosy comfort of our very own home.
The result of this really engaging and enormously fun cooking masterclass is not only a restaurant quality meal to share with your favourite sous chef, but the wealth of invaluable techniques we can now incorporate into our cooking repertoire. We’ll definitely be using that stove top smoking technique again – the aromas wafting from the kitchen were amazing! Maybe next time though, we’ll try not to set off the smoke alarm…
We’ll definitely be signing up for more virtual visits to our kitchen from Chef Jason Ludwig, it’s like having a direct line to our very own executive chef whenever we need it! Brilliant!
