In Short: Bar Luca satisfies your burger cravings like no other. With up to 10 burgers, a bunch of sides, cocktails and beers on tap, there is enough for a full evening of food and alcohol to keep a big crew happy. Check out the specials and ensure someone gets the Blame Canada burger.
In conversations about best burgers in Sydney, it is not a complete conversation if Bar Luca does not get a mention. For so long, I have been wanting to go try their burgers, but given its popularity and usually a 10 year old in tow, it can be challenge to get in. With social distancing in effect, I seized the opportunity to head in early in the evening to give their burgers a go. Even with deserted streets, there is still a good crowd at Bar Luca. Situated not far from Circular Quay and in the middle of the financial district, its location is perfect for after work drinks and burgers.
You won’t be wanting for choice at Bar Luca. There is 9 burgers and a special available. I had only a few seconds to snap a photo, because Sammi was eager to bite into her Classic Cheese. It not may be as stacked as the other 9 burgers, yet there is no doubting the flavour. I snuck in a bite(for research purposes) and enjoyed the sweetness of the onion and of course the tender, perfectly cooked patty. Milk buns make it easy for the little one to plough through the burger.
As epic burgers go, Blame Canada in many circles is renowned as one of the best in the city. I loved the beefy flavour of the patty. It is perfectly seasoned, cooked with a little pinkness showing, and moist. I enjoyed the maple aioli and then from the soft patty and bun, comes the crispy maple glazed bacon. It’s sweet, salty crispy and indulgent! Once done with a Blame Canada, not only does it leave a filling sensation, the satisfaction index sits at about 100 in my book.
Over in the corner, Mavis was busily deconstructing her BL Beef burger like only she can do. She enjoyed the tasty American cheese in her burger and the freshness of the lettuce and tomato. Of course, she absolutely adored the patty, which really is some of the best meat sandwiched between two pieces of bread! Having had her share of burgers while studying in Michigan in her younger years, Mavis knows a thing or three about burgers. She appreciated the pickles and BL burger sauce which add a kick.
While my Blame Canada came with poutine, we couldn’t resist a full side of Poutine. At Bar Luca, thin shoe-string fries are lathered with gravy and cheese curds. I love the chunks of cheese curds that are warmed through with the gravy. Speaking of which, the gravy is thin and coats, rather than saturating the fries. It is delicious and plain addictive.
To cut through the richness of the burgers, we tried a couple of the sodas on the Bar Luca menu. The Old Fashioned Lemonade was full of refreshing citrus notes. It is elevated with a splash of blackcurrant and cranberry extract.
The Raspberry and Mint soda was equally refreshing with the sharpness of the raspberry quelled by the mint with fresh raspberry and slices of lemon.
With a week spent confined at home, it was treat to head to Bar Luca for a burger feast. It definitely lived up to its billing as one Sydney’s best burger joints.
