In Short: The Preview in Forestville brings all the very best of a CBD café experience to the Sydney suburbs, and does it with a warm and welcoming approach that should make it a must-do and regular visit for all of us café-addicted foodies. Tip: The Granola Bombe with acai gelato is “da bomb”.
Any of our regular followers will know how much I love a true local café, and one that really goes that extra mile to bring a top-notch CBD quality food and coffee experience to the suburbs. The great thing about this mix of innovation, quality, and local focus is that it makes these truly engaging food experiences so much more accessible. Combine that all with unrushed, friendly service and people that really care about your time with them, and you end up with a special place like The Preview in Forestville.
It’s a super chilled weekday mid-morning, and we snag a great seat right up front and in a corner with funky stone walls and clean finishes that all come together in an unfussy, chic, minimalist space. It’s all about letting the light in and letting the great food and coffee do the talking at The Preview, so it’s time to order up.
Our super-friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, server starts us off right with a hot and cold duo of bevvies. The Gabriel Ethiopian Grade 1 cold drip is pristinely clean with delightful notes of strawberry, dark chocolate and cinnamon. We get stuck into a fair few cold drips in our foodie travels, and this one is right up there with the very best.
The hot side of this duo comes in the form of a fragrant sticky chai that is never too sweet and carries its subtle flavours on a smooth base of creaminess.
So, onto the main act, and this one is a real show stopper. If the sight of The Preview’s Granola Bombe with acai gelato does not make you utter the words “I’ll have what she’s having…” then you either need to get your eyes checked or you’re just are too young to have watched ‘When Harry Met Sally‘. Seriously, this stunning looking bowl of acai gelato enrobed with yoghurt whip is one of those destination dishes that locals and foodie adventurers flock for. With a base of summer fruits and toasted granola, crowned with smooth, rich acai gelato cloaked in a light blanket of yoghurt and highlighted by mango compote, this bowl is a beauty to behold, and devour.
For every sweet yin, there’s a savoury yang and the Roasted Mushrooms is that perfect balance to our brunch. With gorgeous, gooey eggs and enoki mushrooms atop a bed of roasted mushrooms, whipped goats cheese, and crispy sourdough all laced with parmesan and almonds, it was a tug of war to keep this plate in front of me.
Local or not, The Preview in Forestville is one of those café finds that should make it a must do and regular visit for any Sydney café lover worth their salt. Owners Nic Blair and Vinnie Capozzi, along with their enormously welcoming staff, deserve a huge congratulations for bringing the best of Sydney café culture to the community.
