Strolling the streets of Port Melbourne, we didn’t expect to stumble upon a traditional French café with a baking history that stretches back to the mid 1800’s. Noisette Café on Bay St. has the flavours and treats you’d find in the streets of Paris and we’ve stuck our head in to quickly sample two of their famous favourites.
The Mont Blanc is amazingly smooth with a nice density and subtlety to it sweetness. If you’ve never had a traditional French Mont Blanc, the pureed sweetened chestnut is a unique flavour experience that sets it apart from many other treats. There’s something sophisticated in the flavours and textures. The presentation speaks for itself and it’s clear that a lot of love and care has gone into its preparation.
The beautifully delicate and silky smooth Angelina is a refreshing dome of vanilla and violette mousse, almond feuilletine, strawberry jelly, and chocolate flourless sponge. Topped with a mini macaroon, it’s a playful yet refined adventure in tastes. Slipping a spoon through its sublime mousse and into the strawberry jelly centre, is transfixing with every scoop. The Angelina is a must-try if you find yourself in Port Melbourne.
We’ll be back to Noisette soon to do a proper review. If these two superb offerings are anything to go by, there’s much much more to sink our teeth into here.
